Alright so let me tell you about my first ever daygame lay. It’s been a few days since it happened but I’m still kinda in shock that I was able to pull it off by doing… not so much.
I was on a coaching session with a well known coach in the space and it was the second day of the overall program. Late afternoon as I remember. A random street near downtown. I saw this cute Asian girl walking by. Early twenties, short, small frame, with a backpack.
So I decided to open her. It was not a clean open.
Up ahead there was a restaurant or cafe with tables spilling onto the sidewalk, and I didn’t want to open right in front of an audience like that, so I held. Held too long. I ran out of pavement, and the only real estate left was right next to a stranger walking his dog. So that’s where it happened. There was the girl, this fuckin’ guy with his dog, and me, uncomfortably close to each other.
She flinched. The guy with the dog stared at both of us like he paid for a seat. He eventually got a show out of it, no question about that.
“Hey, I just thought you looked cute, I didn’t mean to scare you.” She didn’t say anything back. Just stood there a beat, still catching up to what’s happening to her.
So I started just saying things that come to mind, like what I’m doing now in the city, when I will leave, where I’m from etc..
That’s the part where the street tilted in my favor. Turned out, she was mid-way through a Europe trip, and her next stop — the very next city on her list — was the city I’M from and was going back to in a couple of days.
The fear dropped off her face and something more useful replaced it: genuine interest and excitement. For the rest of the set, I just gave her tourist advice, what to check out, where to go etc… She had questions. I had answers. We traded Instagram and made a loose plan to link up once she actually landed in my country.
Walking away, I gave it about a 20% chance of going anywhere. It was not a solid close, our vibe was also very “friendly”. Like, “let me be your tourist guide” is not really an angle I was going for, but anyway…
Surprisingly, she messaged back on Insta. Then, when I got home, I messaged again, and we worked out logistics, when to meet and where. So seemed like this might happen, but I still had this thing in my mind that she might just consider this a friendly thing not a date. So I went in expecting a nice afternoon and nothing more. Wanted to push it as far as it goes, and if it stops, it stops.
We met at the main square, hugged, small talk. I laid out a loose itinerary and asked what she wanted to see, playing the tour guide straight. But at least I made sure if we actually like each other and it miraculously becomes a real date, we will have an easy time walking 5-15min back to my apartment and not end up on the other end of the city for no reason kilometers away.
We opened with drinks at my favourite downtown non-alcoholic place. Maybe fifteen minutes. She turned out to be fairly intelligent, well traveled, normal human being. We vibed. We connected on a lot of random things from all over the world. Like, she went to a specific theme park in Japan and I went to the same branded theme park in the US - and there’s like only 3 places in the world where you can find that theme park. I guess being somewhat traveled can pay off in conversations.
From there it was churches, old buildings, tourist stops, me sharing my stories and my history knowledge with her. She leaned into the history more than I expected. By the time it got dark we’d landed at a bar. Coke Zero for me, orange juice (or something similar) for her. For some reason I thought we were supposed to drink alcohol on a date to make it work but turns out no. Neither of us needed the alcohol to get where we were going.
With the tour running out of road and my building fifteen minutes off, I asked her straight: “Do you want to see where I live?” No hesitation. She said “Yes!”
Then it was straightforward:
- A grocery-store stop for water — no real reason, just I’m friends with the guys who work there and wanted to show them that I’m with a girl… fuckin’ stupid I know.
- I was nervous so I ended up fumbling the entry code at my building, then needed to grab the keys from my pocket instead to get in.
- In the kitchen, she mentioned everything was too tall for her. She couldn’t reach anything. So I jokingly picked her up (physically, pun intended) so she could reach the top shelf. It was fun.
- Small physical touches over the next twenty minutes, while sharing my sport injury history with her and showing the scars my body has.
- On the couch, when I ran out of stories I just asked out of the blue: “Is it okay if I kiss you?”
She froze for a few seconds then said yes, quiet enough I barely heard it. We kissed. It went further from there…
After sex, she went from a kinda nervous energy she had all day long (I just thought that’s how she is in general so I didn’t pay attention to it) to a much more relaxed state. Like whatever she’d been holding onto all afternoon finally let go. We ended up talking for another hour or two afterward while lying naked in bed.
Great girl, great experience. I honestly had no idea I could meet a girl like this randomly on the street (furthermore, in another city) and then have a night like this with her.
